Gary Oldman was rumored to be cast, but he was replaced by Kevin Kline
Tale
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary filmmaker whose work is based on exposing the wrongdoings of long-respected institutions. Jonathon uses the same lens in several episodes of the series, a medium telephoto. Such a lens would not be able to focus on close-up subjects, like selfies with Sasha or in the bedroom with Catherine.
It is essentially a revenge story
Damn! When I started watching this AppleTV+ limited series starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, I had no idea what kind of experience I was in for. “Disclaimer,” based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, was written for the screen and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
Blanchett is fantastic here, as always, and Kline also gives a solid performance
Blanchett stars as Catherine, a journalist whose secrets from her past come to light in disturbing ways, forcing her to confront this past that is destroying her entire life. It was a masterfully told story that takes us on a fascinating journey of discovery, where the audience is shown (sometimes in vivid detail) the ‘events’; Catherine’s past. It was great to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role, but he did it right.
But boy am I glad I stuck around
A few nitpicks aside, I highly recommend this series if you like character dramas with some suspense/intrigue. Note: There are some nice sex/intimacy scenes in several episodes. It’s not action-packed and it took about half an episode (about 30 minutes) to finally get me “hooked”; into the story.
